Pittsburgh Staff Retreat: Getting Started with Activities

Activities in the Poconos

Golf – The Poconos are home to some of the most gorgeous courses in the Northeast. With over 15 courses nearby, tourists may play golf and never play the same course twice, unless they want to. There are also several mini-golf courses nearby for people who prefer to putt.

Casinos and Waterparks – The Poconos have long been a popular vacation destination, but today there are even more reasons to visit. Three big casinos provide gambling, food, events, and even horse racing. “Mt. Airy Casino” has additional information. The Poconos currently boast over 5 big waterparks to cool down in.

Historic Jim Thorpe is the place to go for a distinctive small town experience. Getting lost in this town for a day is simple with mountain train trips, bike rentals, history tours, and tiny local shops and eateries. Consider riding the train for an autumn foliage trip.

Wilderness Park at Bushkill Falls – A 100 ft. natural waterfall, hiking trails, fishing, and boating. With eight waterfalls and pathways, visitors can easily spend a day here and reconnect with nature. Their webpage is: “Bushkill”

Pocono Raceway, in the Pocono Mountains, opened in 1971. ARCA Racing, a NASCAR Truck race, and an IndyCar race are now held at the “Tricky Triangle.” The racetrack also hosts minor races and community activities. Their webpage is: “Pocono”

Hiking – Pennsylvania has several State Parks, hiking routes, and picturesque locations. Some of the greatest are in the Poconos, including the Delaware Water Gap. Autumn paints the mountains with some of the most vibrant hues, dazzling our visitors.

Skiing – The Poconos offer many wonderful ski resorts. There are over six within a short drive of any of our three Poconos residences. Consider Shawnee, Big Boulder Jack Frost, and Camelback. With so many alternatives, shredding down the mountain will be a breeze.
