Pocono Mountains History

Anthony Dutot opened the first boarding house hotel in 1829 near the Delaware Water Gap, launching a highly profitable resort economy. By 1900, hundreds of Philadelphians and New Yorkers were vacationing in the mountains. Lake Wallenpaupack, Pennsylvania’s third-largest man-made lake, was built in the Pocono Mountains by Pennsylvania Power and Light Company (now PPL Electric Utilities, Inc.). Damming the creek and building a hydro-electric plant created a 5,600-acre lake with 52 miles of continuous shoreline. The Big Lake became a hotspot for water sports. Brookfield Renewable acquired control in 2016. It protects the lake’s recreational, aesthetic, and environmental benefits. Lake Wallenpaupack is a beloved Pocono Mountain getaway.

During Prohibition, Pocono Mountain resorts advertised themselves as “Friendly Mountain Resorts” where no gambling or card games were allowed on Sundays. You can find out more at the Poconos Visitors Guide here: https://travel.usnews.com/The_Poconos_PA/

By getting them out of the classroom and into the world, field trips to Pocono Valley Resort allow students to learn from experience, while teachers gain new insights on their students. Better Relationships Through Team Building

One of the most important skills in the workforce is knowing how to work as part of a larger team, and this instruction begins in school. School field trips that support team building will have lasting benefits for the dynamics of the classroom and for the students throughout their lives. Through guided activities, students will learn and practice important peer-to-peer development concepts such as:

• Respect

• Honesty

• Teamwork

• Group problem solving

Students will be encouraged to work in varying groups rather than just staying with their usual group of friends. This allows new friendships and comradery to develop, which will translate to the classroom and school environment. With increased understanding and respect, students can move forward from their time at Pocono Valley as a more cohesive class.

School Field Trip Benefits!

Our school group trips are a hit with both kids and instructors. There are many possibilities for pupils to increase their own particular tacit knowledge, which is vital to higher level learning and problem solving skills. Students apply what they learn in class to their daily lives, lasting months or years!

We know that instructors like yourselves moan at the thought of organizing such an opportunity. The emphasis shifts from educational gains to policy, bureaucracy, and prospective costs. We know how hard it is to choose the perfect program, organize parent evenings, acquire school approval, manage pupils in the airport, and plan the trip itself. Trust us when we say that a school group tour is 100% worth the time and effort.

To help you remember why bringing children out of the classroom is a smart idea, here are our top benefits for sending students on a school trip:

Experiential learning occurs

Experiential learning believes that when learning is transferred into a real-life scenario, it becomes more strong in individuals. This reinforces the premise that unique experiences like an overseas school trip may successfully prepare pupils for life. Students at Pocono Valley participate in challenging group activities like traditional sports and exciting activities the Pine Valley Ropes Course.

Students’ viewpoint is broadened

Taking educational excursions and immersing pupils in cultural experiences has been shown to be very beneficial. It’s a perspective that can only be learned. As you are aware, it is difficult to instill a love of languages, cultures, and current events in pupils alone in the classroom.

Student-teacher bonding

Getting to know your pupils better while on the trip is a terrific method to strengthen bonds. This will help you throughout the remainder of the year. Personal connections between students and teachers increase motivation and engagement.

Make lifelong memories

In a new setting, students must work as a team with classmates outside their normal group. They also create lifetime memories with peers, which is undoubtedly a joyful learning experience.
